Four internationally renowned saxophonists—Rhett Bender, Jennifer Turpen, Scott Turpen and John Bleuel—join together to form the Globe Saxophone Quartet. The group began playing together in 1994 as graduate students at the University of Georgia. Early successes include twice competing in the semi-final round of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and winning first prize in 1995 at the NACWAPI National Symposium Chamber Music Competition. Currently quartet members are professors of saxophone at universities in Georgia, Oregon and Wyoming. Each summer the Globe Saxophone Quartet serves as faculty-in-residence at the Britt Festival Saxophone Workshop in Jacksonville, Oregon. This spring the quartet will performed in Georgia, Wyoming and Oregon, and as featured artists at the Saxophone Alliance Biennial Meeting at the University of South Carolina. Next year’s highlights include tours of the Sichuan and Shandong provinces of China and a performance at the XVth World Saxophone Congress in Bangkok, Thailand. Globe Quartet concerts feature the beautiful and multi-faceted timbre of four saxophones, with musical styles running the gamut of classical, jazz and world music. The members of the Globe Saxophone Quartet are Yamaha Performing Artists.
